An Introduction to Healthy Living

Piscataquis Public Health Council

The Piscataquis Public Health Council is a community coalition of business organizations, schools, and individuals that are committed to the development of PPHC promotes Healthy Eatinghealthy living in Piscataquis and Penobscot counties. (map). Our work is multi-systemic and supports healthy living through a variety of educational and prevention programs and services. We have many objectives such as: mobilizing community partnerships, assisting in the development of health related policies, educate and empower community businesses and schools, and linking communities to health resources. PPHC is funded by the tobacco settlement monies through the Fund for a Healthy Maine. The Piscataquis Public Health Council is one of 28 Healthy Maine Partnerships in the state of Maine.

The Piscataquis Public Health Council strives to reach many objectives that we feel are critical to building and maintaining a health community. These include: providing tobacco education and resources, helping to increase physical activity and nutrition among children and adults, reducing high risk drinking and prescription medication misuse, and preventing chronic disease.

The Piscataquis Public Health Council also provides financial support to many area organizations and programs related to policy and environmental changes, trail development, outdoor mapping resources, nutrition promotion, access to physical activity opportunities, and tobacco free environments.
